I was at a tire shop recently getting tires for my commuter car. I started looking at the little computer model they have in there that allows you to change the color of the car and the wheels to get an idea of what they look like. I have Weld Draglites on my 67 and although they look OK, I've always liked that solid centerline look.
(Of course the only 1st gen they had was a 69).

But anyway, the guys there and me started talking and they mentioned to NOT buy Weld wheels.
What's wrong with Welds? None of them could give me a straight answer other than they said they were flimsy. :confused:

Is there something I didn't know about my Weld Draglites?

Nothing design specific is "wrong" with Weld wheels. Their car and motorcycle wheels are well designed and very popular. I'm sure it was his personal preference.

They are lighter than most wheels aren't they?

I run the Weld ProStars and they have a DOT stamp on them and the DragLites are stronger (I think). I have heard of a few draglites folding on hard corners but they were the 3 or 4" fronts.

Look for a DOT stamp around the lugnut area.
There are about a dozen that state "not for street use".

I have Draglites on my 67 , I did have to buy one new 15 x 6 that I had on the front because it was manf. out of round, I didnt know this until the second trip to the tire shop where it was discovered. I spent some $$$ looking for a vibration on a new driveshaft and I even switched my 4/11 that I never cared for to 3/55's

ALL aluminum rims CAN get bent and even crack so go from there!!!

I have one of my Son's stock Eclipse bent rims under my bench out in the garage that I thought he said there was going to be a class action lawsuit on, but nothing ever became of it..

And talk about MONEY, my B-i-L broke one of the (4) ALL different stock aluminum wheels on one of the 'Vette's he had years ago... Boy did be bi-ch when he had to cough up the money to replace it! BIG BUCKS!! I think it was onna the rear ones?
