I need to replace my squirrel cage. How do I remove it from the motor? I removed the retainer nut and washer, but it won't budge.

Phil

I'd try some wd40 or liquid wrench or the like. Sounds like its just stuck with some rust build-up. Should just slide off from what I remember.

yup, they just slide off,m tho they can get kinda stuck on there. Use some good penetrsating oil as suggested. screw the nut on a few turns, support the squirrel cage, and whack (gently) on the nut, she should drop off.

Be careful, that squirrel cage ain't too strong, easy to trash it.

Use penetrating oil and a flat blade screwdriver in between the cage and the motor. Gently turn the screwdriver and it will loosen the cage off the shaft.

Its easy to twist the cage out of round so not to worry if you don't brake it. Simply hit it on a flat hard surface and keep checking it spinning on the shaft rotating it by hand. Go easy .. :)

Thanks guys, got it off this morning.

I am taking it off because it needs to be replaced. Looks like a little critter had its' way with it for quite a while. :(

Anyone know where to buy just the cage?

Classic or National should have them.
