I bought a 3rd gen box and want to take the top cover off to repaint it. The middle bolt is it ok to just unbolt it? It doesn't adjust pressure or anything like that does it? Thanks

That middle bolt adjusts the gear mesh of the sector shaft. I would not mess with the adjustment just to paint the gear. Carefully mask around the cover and bolts.
