I had posted a question about my rear end not centered (right to left) in my 68 a few weeks ago. Also about a possible bent subframe, because of the trans x member not lining up correctly. I have a bit more info and need to know if this is something that will be fixed on my up coming projects. On the driver side the rear wheel sticks out 2" further than on the Pass side (14x10" wheels). I also notice that on the front that the front wheel on the driver side is 1-1/4" closer to the fender lip than the pass side. The only driveabilaty problems I had with the car was that when makeing a hard right hand turn the front end wanted to "walk" a little. But not when turning left. I am fixing to put a rear end from a 74 nova under the car. Also if need be I can replace the subframe with the same 74 nova. My question is when I put the rear end under do I just need to worry about centering it up with the back and then worry about the front are should I worry about the front before the back. Thanks for any input. To add one more thing the car has been hit on the front driver side and has been repaired but this was before I bought the car and I don't know the quality of work that was done.

I'm not an expert but these are my thoughts. I would square the rear when you do that then look at the front. A good smack could shift, for different reasons, both ends. The front subframe, especially with old bushings, is a flex-flyer. It's not uncommon to have them out of alignment or to have to true them when replacing bushings. If the front subframe was bent, I would expect the opposite problem up front. On the front, take some diagonal measurements to check trueness. Lastly, for under $200, you should be able to find a good frame if the need arises down the road to replace.
