View Full Version : 1968 Z28 could it be real?
Erik Beckett Mar 9th, 07, 09:13 AM They are saying this camaro is a real Z28. I know 68's are the hardest to verify but what do you guys think about it. I love the look of the camaro and he says it has the tire size label in the glove box and the right rearend and master cylinder. What do you guys think??

Thanks, Erik
Dayton68Z28 Mar 9th, 07, 09:30 AM That is not a "WT" Master.
So...we have a 12 bolt and a 15" tire sticker. Would be nice to see a pick of the sticker.
Everett#2390 Mar 9th, 07, 09:35 AM Ugly brown color, at least on my monitor.
No cowl air cleaner?
Chrome shift knob?
68 Ragtop Mar 9th, 07, 11:05 AM 68's are the hardest to verify
I see this quote all the time and always think the opposite.
With a 68 there is one less thing, i.e. trim tag, that needs to be verified.
All of the other parts and numbers that need to be verified on a 68 also need to be verified on a 69.
I mean you wouldn't buy a 69 just because it has the right X code on the trim tag would you? Those things are reproduced and original ones are sold on ebay and privately all the time.
I think too many people put too much emphasis solely on trim tag X codes that can mean a no, or maybe, but never a definite yes.
My point is, all years need a thorough checking regardless of trim tag.

68Z28CE Mar 9th, 07, 12:58 PM I'm skeptical, but it's impossible to tell from the pics and description.
What up with that steering wheel?
Tinkerr Mar 9th, 07, 01:53 PM Didn't that steering wheel come in a group with deluxe interior and chrome trim on the doors and quarter windows.
68Z28CE Mar 9th, 07, 03:03 PM I thought the deluxe steering wheel for 68 had chrome spokes and the standard spokes were black..

Aren't those 67 wheels pictured??? the wheel is a 68 but didn't all 68 Z's have the rear spoiler standard???
68Z28CE Mar 9th, 07, 03:50 PM Aren't those 67 wheels pictured??? the wheel is a 68 but didn't all 68 Z's have the rear spoiler standard???
I thought they were 68.
The rear spoiler was optional on Z28's until 69.
al8apexer Mar 9th, 07, 04:47 PM the cowl top will be white assuming the car got white stripes, black if it had black stripes
sure fire way to verify a Van Nuys Z28
Norwood cars had body color cowl top
al8apexer Mar 9th, 07, 04:49 PM just looked at the pics
I would say with 95+% certainty that this is a REAL 68 Z28 built in CA
al8apexer Mar 9th, 07, 04:51 PM I don't like the trim tag, take a close look at it.
nothing wrong with the tag
only thing wrong is the person taking pics doesn't know how to ...
al8apexer Mar 9th, 07, 04:52 PM Ugly brown color, at least on my monitor.
No cowl air cleaner?
Chrome shift knob?
yeah, it is a 68 .... duh!
it is maroon btw, good looking car in my book
68 Ragtop Mar 9th, 07, 05:49 PM Didn't that steering wheel come in a group with deluxe interior and chrome trim on the doors and quarter windows.
You are mixing up your option groups.
Dlx steering wheel is part of Z23 special interior or Custom Interior
Belt Reval Molding is part of Z21 Style Trim Group or Rally Sport group
68 Ragtop Mar 9th, 07, 05:54 PM I don't like the trim tag, take a close look at it.
I don't like the trim tag either, but probably for a different reason than you.
The N-N should be U-U
68Z28CE Mar 9th, 07, 06:26 PM What month did GM change the 302 to the Z28 fender emblem?
Mark Rossiter Mar 9th, 07, 07:08 PM A pair of wing windows would make it extra nice! :p
68zproject Mar 9th, 07, 09:27 PM What month did GM change the 302 to the Z28 fender emblem?
March

Thanks:thumbsup:
Agree very desirable color IMO. I especially like the fact it has no spoiler and the exhaust is turned down behind the rear tires. I don't like the 8 inch wide rally wheels on the back. Correct alt brackets, 6K redline tach, ect. The alt pulley must be a service replacement otherwise I think it would be silver versus gold cad. The deluxe wheel probably is included with the console, which also puts the wood grain trim on the center dash panel (he's removed the wood grain panel from the console). Other than that a nice standard interior.
Only thing wrong I see is the 302 emblems are placed a little off, the left side is slightly too low, below the body crease and the right side is not level with the forward edge again going below the body line. That may not mean anything as GM did a poor job placing the emblems on these cars in those days. My 68SS has the original markings on it and the driver side fender SS emblem is slightly crooked, drives me nuts, but that's the way it is.
The 70 Chevelle in the background though hopefully is just a Malibu with a cowl hood installed or it has the wrong color parking light lens for a SS car. Should be clear with amber bulbs, not amber lens, that was a Malibu feature.
Very nice Camaro how ever it turns out.
gro51 Mar 10th, 07, 07:22 AM That IS the correct deluxe steering wheel for '68 in the ebay ad pictures.
RPO N30 Steering Wheel, Deluxe: Included when custom or special interior is ordered. In other words you could add on the deluxe wheel with a standard interior. Original list $4.00.
RonM Mar 10th, 07, 07:45 AM It probably came with RPO Z23 Special Interior which included bright pedal pads, deluxe steering wheel and wood-grained instrument panel trim and moulding, all of which I see in the pictures. What I don't see is the brake pedal pad indicating disc brakes which a Z28 should have. Hope this helps, RonM.
Milt's 68 SS/RS 396 Mar 11th, 07, 01:02 AM I think it's real. I have the same steering wheel on my 68. Mine has the deluxe interior. The one pictured doesn't seem to have deluxe interior. Mine has the SS emblem in the middle. I'd like to see the middle of this one. Can anyone tell what the redline is on the tach?
SY1 Mar 11th, 07, 04:22 PM Looks like it's 6K to me.
Blade Mar 11th, 07, 04:34 PM looks like one in my opinion
wagonman Mar 11th, 07, 11:14 PM if you wanted my opinion if it was a real z or not i would request the following pics...
the rear leafs
fire wall where the speedo cable comes through
tire sticker
drivetrain codes.( engine trans rear end0
dist number
hole in floor for shifter
to name a few......

The guy has included the glove box tire sticker this time. It looks like a great car to. But I am no Z28 expert at all. I trust your guys comments but the one I am having trouble with is the Trim Tag comments. Why do you say it should be U-U instead of N-N? And the other comment about wing windows? I trust you guys to help me make a decision so I need reasons why you disagree on certain things.
Thanks Erik Beckett

My comment on U-U vs N-N just meant I prefer a Lemans Blue car to Cordovan Maroon.
There is no information on a 68 tag to confirm or deny Z/28, I took the comment as a joke.
The wing window comments are also a joke, refering to someone who prefers 67's.
rivieragransport Apr 7th, 07, 01:02 AM Wes...that is a 1968 'deluxe' wheel it was available by itself as an option or included with the deluxe interior. You could also get the woodgrain plastic wheel of course. I have that weird looking 3 spoke wheel on my '68 RS Z and it is for sure original..I used to have a '68 SS 396 and it also had that wheel with a tiny SS emblem in the middle...
rivieragransport Apr 7th, 07, 01:06 AM Hi...sorry guys I didnt see that the steering wheel thing was already covered numerous times...didnt look through all the pages of posts....I like the steering wheel by the way..it is a '68 only thing..
