I have a 1969 Camaro with A/C and I need to replace the blower motor. I was told there was no way to get to the blower moter without removing the front fender, others have told me I can access the blower moter by removing the wheel well without removing front fender. I drive the car daily so I haven't attempted this project yet and I'd like to do this the quickest and hopefully the easiest way possible.

Unfortunately the RH fender will have to come off. It is one of GM's less than desirable engineering exercises.

I still believe that whomever designs it ought to fe forced to fix it.

You can do search on this as there has been a fair amount of discusion on this topic. I believe the general consensus is to remove the fender and wheel well as one unit.

Removing the inner wheel well without the fender is actually more difficult and prone to scratching the paint than taking both of as a unit. How do I know these things?

Hey Rick,

Could you elaborate? I'm planning on removing the fenders & wheel wells from my 69 coupe this weekend. (doing a frame-off)

I wasplanning on pulling the fenders, then wells, then radiator support.

Thanks,
Rob

The inner fender tucks inside the wheel well lip of the fender. This makes it more difficult to fit the fender back onto the inner. Even with taping the fender and door edges, it is easy to chip paint as you have to work the fender around. There are fewer bolts to remove if you do it as a unit. I'm not saying it's impossible but after doing it once, I would do it as a single unit ( which the service manual recommends, too ).

Different strokes for different folks. I have replaced the blower motor 2 times and I find dropping the inner fender much easier. No shims to loose, no body to align, no hood to try to put on alone. It is tough at the fender lip but not that bad. Did you take the bracket to the firewall off? To each his own. The right way is the way that gets it done for you (without damage to car).
