Has anyone purchased a crate motor? Speedomotive has a chevy 383 street master engine. it has 423hp@5,500 rpm and437 ft/lbs at 4,500 rpm.The cost is $2,495. I dont know if you get a new block or remanufactured. I just wondered if anyone has bought any crate motors, and if they run pretty hard.I have a chevy 350 block and i dont think i can build one for that price after you buy the heads and all the other parts.

I haven't bought a crate motor but I just built a 400 SB using Speed-O-Motive's 406 Strong Arm Kit. The kit was excellent, the motor turned out great and they gave me good support. My motor should have roughly the same performance that they claim for the 383 and I doubt if I beat the price they're quoting by much if any $$ when building mine. Sounds like a pretty good deal.
