Time to buy tires, to go on 17 x8 and 17 x 9.5 for my 69 convert. I'll porobably order from tire rack - I have a budget of $500. Any suggestions on brand/model? I've got the size part figured out. Stricly for summer driving. I know nothing! Thanks!

Al - I found Nitto 555's price very attractive and they make an excellent product. Tire rack doesn't carry them though...

As I dont run track or very rarely high speeds, I run Street good tyres. The track tyres are very expensive...
The secret is use a local tyre shop that actually knows what they are talking about and you can trust they will sell you a product for your application rather than more interested in a high $ sale and profit.

Here's another vote for the Nitto 555's. I run 245-45-17's in front and 275-40-18's on the rear. I do mostly spirited mountain driving with occasional 3,000 mile trips to Billings, Montana, thrown in. I've gotten a lot more mileage out of the Nitto's than I ever did out of Yokohama AVS's, with at least as good a grip.
