: Paint an pinchweld molding

I am getting my 68 convertible painted soon and I have been removing the trim. After researching tthe topic of the pinchweld molding on this site I am considering leaving it on for a couple of reasons:
1) The molding is very difficult to re install and there is a likliehood that the paint will get scratched.
2) There seems to be some debate as to whether or not it can be installed with the top in place.

Can anyone give me there opinions or more info on removing and installing the molding? I would like to do it, but I want to be able to get the molding back on properly.

Thanks,
Jason

Jason, whenever you put any trim back on after a repaint, there is a chance to scratch the paint. smile.gif

You should be able to put them on with the top installed, but you have to drop the rear of the top. Unbolt the rear tack strips (3 on them) and then the top should fall away from the qtrs. You can then fold the top up and over so it does not get in the way, to access the screws that hold the trim on. Then you have to fight with the clips. Its definetly more work, but you run the risk of getting a paint line or not good coverage it the painter doesn't mask the trim perfectly.

Luck, Kevin
