My 68 Camaro has the original speedometer and fuel gauge, I would like to add a tachometer & the console mounted gauge package. However, I would also like to keep the idiot lights. I think the original center console gauges eliminate the oil pressure idiot light but keep the others lights??

Would putting a '67 tach in place of my fuel gauge (I think the printed circuits are the same for '67 w/tach & '68 w/out tach) allow me to keep all of the idiot lights?

I'm also thinking about getting AutoMeter's '68 console gauge pod & mounting their 2&1/16-inch fuel, oil, temp, & volt gauges there. Any thoughts on this--should I instead go with the original console gauges?

The factory guages are horrible. My 68 has them, they are hard to read, especially the tach. I would install the aftermarket guages in the console along with their 5" tach and speedometer in the dash, they fit in the factory housing. If you want warning lights they are available from Autometer and Moroso.

I have a 69 with the gauge package on the console and I have to say they aren't that good. I would go with the Aftermarket gauges.

personally, i'd go with the autometers. i've had them for years and i trust them very much. there a very good quality gauge. if you want to mount the tach(autometer 5") in dash, i've heard of many people doing so. i've heard it's pretty easy to do so in your year camaro.

Does anyone know how much the autometer console gage package runs? I saw a '69 with them and they look nice. Also, has anyone put the 5" speedo & tach in a '69 cluster? If so, how do they fit?

Hmmm, I would love to have the factory guage package in my '68, too, even though they suck. But they're hard too get, and very expensive, aspecially the tach. I think the '67 tach would work, but the face is black, not silver/gray like a '68. Since repo '67 tach's exist at an affordable price, I wish they could be had in the correct color for a '68. I don't really care about having a clock in the middle of the damn thing, but I would like it to match the speedo!

I just replaced my Tic-Toc-Tach and Speedo in my 68 with the Auto Meter 5" Speedo and Tach. They fit right into the Factory bezel. It looks good now I need to send the the original Speedo off to be repaired so it works agian in case I ever want to put it and the Tach back in http://www.camaros.net/forum/smile.gif

I was thinking of swapping a 67 firebird spedo for my 67 camaro, I want a higher speed spedometer. I think the Firebird spedo goes to 180?
The question is, does it have a black face like my 67 Camaro spedo?
And are they available?

Only some of the Firebird speedometers go to 160. The 67 and 68 are identical except for a chrome ring on the outside of the speedo and fuel guages. They are not terribly hard to find, got one at the last swapmeet for $20.

Hey JimM, where did you see 67 repop tachs? I have been looking for replacement for SS that got tweeked. And david Pozzi, I bought firebird gauge cluster at swap meet for $30, they look the same as 67. I'll double check the year though. And to all you guy's ripping out factory tach & gauges, SHAME ON YOU! I admit they're not the best, I've even supplemented my car with more accurate gauges, but left the originals in and functioning. Check Steve's Camaro's in South San Francisco, I think they might have a repro 67 tack in stock. My 68 didn't come from the factory with tach and guages so I will have no remorse if I decide to remove them.
