Thanks - trentonZ28 Oct 18th, 04, 09:30 AM I used 400 grit , 220 is way too course. 1967 Panther Oct 18th, 04, 09:39 AM I was told 400 was too smooth and would'nt let panit hold to it..Not true? Thanks for the response camaro_z28_1969 Oct 18th, 04, 09:59 AM According to the BASF tech that teaches their certification class I was fortunate enough to be able to attend, final sanding prior to paint is 500 dry, 600 wet, or 400 on a DA. Each of these grits are equivalent to the other. Hope this helps, John merch120 Oct 18th, 04, 10:13 AM Most of the major Refinish suppliers are OK with 500 for a final sand. If you are shooting a dark color, most recommend a 380-400 final sand, with a sealer. I seal everything, that way I don't have to worry about sand scratches and it also gives you a good chemical bond. 1967 Panther Oct 18th, 04, 12:08 PM THANKS all of you very much. I was thinking 220 would leave to many scratches.Merch120, is a sealer like a primer you spray after final sanding? merch120 Oct 18th, 04, 05:47 PM Yep- its a non-sanding type of primer, although I use primer in a loose sense. HOK, PPG, DuPont, etc use a stand-alone sealer- in other words, they don't take their basic primer, tell you to add more reducer to it, and call it a sealer. Follow all your directions carefully, and you will minimize your chances of bleed thru and sand swelling. |
