MY FIRST 69
May 29th, 01, 10:31 PM
I just removed the carpet on my 69 and let me tell ya i had to cut most of it out because it was all glued ot the damn floor. I have yellow padding and glue stuck all over my floor in little patches. I have been using a paint scraper to get some of it off but it still leaves the glue behind. I started to use a grinder and a corse disk but it it taking the floor down to bare metal. What should i use to get the glue off of the floor? Also i found a pretty good sized spot of surface rust where my heater core has been leaking. I damn near used up a whole wire brush on the mess and grinded what i could. Still looks pretty orange. What should i paint the floor with? I am going to seal and paint the whole floor from the firewall to the back seat just to keep things clean. thanks guys

You can use a heat gun in most situations to remove glue, or at least loosen it up enough to scrape it off. Once it's soft and you have scraped as much of it off as you can, lacquer thinner will cut the remaining residue. If you don't have a heat gun and don't want to buy one, a good, high wattage hair dryer will do the trick, it's just slower. You will probably puke the dryer if you have a lot of glue to get up though.
Once again, POR-15 seems to be the answer for painting the floor. Just follow the directions and you will come out just fine.

I would try Acetone. Let it soak in a bit then use your paint scraper and some rags. Use plenty of ventilation and be careful not to cause any sort of sparks, this stuff is flammable.
A vote here for POR-15 also. I used it and it works great.

had the same problem with my floor pans, as RF says i used a wire wheel and drill and it removed it all along with cleaning up the pan of any rust build up so i ould see what would need to be replaced.
