Eastwood makes the captioned detail paints. I ordered some of both today. Which of these colors would you use on the firewall of a Camaro? The firewall and underside of the '69 has been sand blasted. Should you use a primer before the topcoat? Thanks.

I have used BOTH products, I use the Chassis Black on the frame and Underhood Black on the firewall. Underhood black is a flat black, where the Chassis Black is a Semi Gloss.

Here is what Chassis Black looks like on the frame, the control arms are powdercoated but have a similiar gloss, obviously this is much shinier than the firewall. Now you could use it on the firewall but it would not look original but would be easier to clean. I WOULD NOT use a primer, just light sand and wipe clean the surface you plan to paint.

Brian: Thanks for the advice. Did you use Chassis Black on the bottom of the floor pans? What did you use on the radiator shroud and radiator support? Did you use Underhood Black on the inner fenders?
Thanks,
Mike

When I painted my firewall the Underhood Black, I used Eastwood's Self Ecthing Primer first. Now maybe I didn't follow the directions correctly, but I had problems with it gumming up when when I went to sand it before top coating it. The end result was removing it all again and starting over  The next go around, I used Rustoleum Brown Primer under the Underhood Black with no compatibility problems. If I recall correctly, Krylon Brown Primer has worked for me with the Underhood Black on other parts as well.

As for the Chassis Black, I used Eastwood's Corroless underneath it but if you don't have rust then it's probably not needed (it is expensive). If you do use the Corroless, follow the directions for topcoating it or the Chassis Black will wrinkle and lift in certain instances  .

Good luck and hope this helps!
