Before anyone can give you a good answer we need to know a something.
What exactly are you repairing (replaceing)?
You can strip the paint and melt the lead out of the seam on the top of the quarter to see if that is all you need to know.

The top lays underneath the windshield and backglass where the seal for the glass is. It is welded at the top of each 1/4 panel and the top of each "A" pillar (front windshield post). It lays inside the drip rails and does not form the drip rail itself. Martin Sr. is right about stripping the paint and melting the lead out of the weld seams. Once you have the paint stripped, the lead will show up very readily.
How you choose to remove the old top is up to you but at least try not to destroy any of the adjacent metal you will have to weld the new top to. This job looks a lot harder than it really is if you take your time and are careful. Think it through first.
Note: Be sure to re-install any sound deadener the old top has left. If it doesn't have any left, buy some new. If that isn't re-installed, the car will sound like a tin can when you close the door.
