has anyone bought some after market "chrome" or power pulleys for there first gen? i have a 69 camaro with a long water pump. the car has A/C but it is not yet installed on the car. the A/C is going to be the old style like from the factory. i was looking in a summit catalog at the pullys and i was stumped as to what size i could put on. i didnt want to underdrive it or anything radical like that, i wanted to make it look stock but have chrome pulleys. are there any good HP pulleys out there? thanks alot.

Well, I'm not exactly sure what look you want, but obviously it is not the stock look. I would recommend some good aluminum ones in either polished or satin finish, they seem to be of better quality. I bought some chrome plated ones from Summit (not to say anything bad...I've always had real good luck with them) and pretty much got some cheap, wobbly, chrome plated pulleys. The chrome looks good, but they are definitely not perfectly round and wobble a bit. Maybe some of the other steel ones are better, but I'll be getting a set of good polished aluminum ones real soon before I destroy my nice water pump.

classic industries has chrome replacement pulleys for about 50-60 bux each. i might not have gave you enough info but my car has a long waterpump A/C and power stearing. i saw some underdrive pulleys in the summit catalog it was a MARCH pulley set for a small block with a long waterpump, power stearing, and A/C. i just wanted to know if i did go with the underdrive system would i have room for all that under my hood? and could i use the stock power stearing, A/C, and altanator brackets. the whole MARCH pulley system is like $190 does it improve the performance of the car that much? or is it just a flashy set up for people to look at? thanks for all the info, i was thinking about those summit pulleys, i was looking in to new pulleys because the ones i have are kinda noisy so im not too sure if they are in good shape or not because they came off of a really tired 327.

I bought the complete March underdrive pulley system and mounting brackets for my Z/28. The pulleys and mounting bracket for the alternator are great, but the mounting bracket for the power steering pump leaves a lot to be desired. Because they are a serpentine type design, be cautious of clearances on things like the stock fan. After putting mine together, I noticed that the fan blades were only about 1/2 inch away from the alternator nose cone cover. I didn't think much about it until the fan blades flexed enough to shave the end of the pulley cover right off. Fortunately, March sent me a brand new cover no charge. The downside came when I spaced the fan out 1/2 inch to clear the pulley. This added undue stress to my old water pump and toasted the bearing. So I replaced it with a Weiand Aluminum water pump. Now everything looks and functions great, but the total price in the end was almost $600.

I have some TD Performance pulleys for mine, the only thing I had to do is grind a little on my water pump (Edelbrock) since the pump is thicker than a stock pump. ou should have no problems finding pulleys for a long water pump. Short pumps are a pain and that is what I have.

Most of the chrome pulleys are cheap, made in China, if you must get them make sure you spend the money and get a name brand. The chrome does not last. You will not get a choice as to size just how many grooves you want. I second the suggestion about the aluminun pulleys, they are much better. Good luck.
