I own a 68' w blk vinyl top and wish to convert to hard top.The roof of the car has some rust under the vinyl.I wish to remove the vinyl and the rust beneath it.I want to remove the chrome trim but am not shure how.I bought a tool for this but I dont Know the proper way to use it.Any advise on this subject greatly appreciated!!!

Well, having just re-done my 68 which had a vinyl top, I can tell that you will need to do several things.
(1) make sure this is what you want to do because putting reversing the following is difficult, not impossible.
(2) Pull off the old vinyl and begin the assess the rust, pitting, etc..
(3) fix the the above and while your at it, you'll need to fill in the lead weld found on all four corners where the top was attached at the factory. This is done so you primer does not "soak through" that soft lead.
(4) cut all the pop rivets around the back window, just make sure you don't cut the ones needed for your other chrome pieces.
That should be it....then your ready to proceed with prime and paint.
