I am getting ready to swap my 400 sbc in favor of a GM crate zz4 350/355 hp (gm 12499712) or the 350/330 hp (gm 12499711). These are two of GM Performence Parts "ready to run" crates with the serpentine drives and all components. I have a 68 Camaro with a turbo 350, power steering, factory exhaust manifolds, and power disc front brakes. My questions are ........... should I encounter any steering issues using headers? I would like to use a ceramic coated header, any suggestions on which ones to buy? Will I have any clearance issues with the serpentine drive? I have the cowl hood. Thanks in advance.

You shouldn't have any problem at all with headers and power steering, its done all the time. The Hooker competition headers with ceramic coating or headmans will work.

I just installed Summit's house brand of ceramic coated headers. They look and fit awesome and the price can't be beat!

:beers: i just put that motor in my car with hooker ceramics.i got manual steering and it hit arm.had to modify header 1/4 inch in so steering didnt hit.but also i used a thicker gasket on header than they give you.for as the serpentine belt with headers i dont know i used all my original stuff since i had brackets for a/c and alt for headers.had all setup on another motor before i bought engine.if you use regular belts and all old stuff need your old water pump but be careful 2 bolts in new timing cover hits need to grind head halfway off than old style water pump fits right on.i didnt see fit to spend that much more on serpentine acc.

Thanks, guys, this is the kind of info I was looking for. I like the choices on the headers. I also want to use the serpentine drive. If anyone has used the GM serpentine setup, I would like to know if it worked out well. I like the idea of going with a completely NEW engine and all of the accessories NEW, too. Thanks for all of the help!!!!!

I just installed a ZZ383 with a serpentine set up on it in my 68. It worked out great and looks awesome. The only thing is getting a top radiator hose to fit. I think I might spend the money to buy a stainless flexible one to fit. This is because it will have to be routed around or over the alt. The A/C worked out great too.

get a water outlet off a late 80's/early 90's TBI pickup. it points the upper hose straight forward and up. then it's just a matter of finding a hose that goes from the outlet to the rad.

as for the headers clearing the steering box, if you have 307 or 327 mounts, get the Dynomax headers.
if you have 302 or 350 mounts, get Hedman. i can't comment on any other brands- but i'd assume they were built around a hi-po car, so they probably clear with the 320/350 mounts.
to hook the late model PS pump to your steering box with the stock line, just take the stock fitting out of the Camaro pump and screw it into the back of the pump that comes with the kit.
