I am going to purchase a new distributor, I will be running a MSD digital 6 box but after some past problems with MSD boxes I want to be able to disconnect the box and run without it. MSD dist. require the box so any suggestions??? Currently running standard dist. w/ Pertronix, but hooking the Digital 6 box up and have NO spark for the .MSD checked the box and it is good. I think the nine year old Pertronix is giving it up. HELP?? Is there any ignition guru's in the K.C. area willing to help me solve this problem??

MSD Ready-to-Run distributors have an internal module that can fire a coil directly, no box needed. I ran one of these for about 12 years in my '68, before swapping engines. The distributor was still working great when my 6AL died after 5 years.

I run an aftermarket HEI with a MSD 6al box and no problems. All you do is pull out the module and wire up the box. Throw the module in the glove box for emergency.

blue69camaro: I'm with you - No confidence in MSD Box's. I've run Accel and Mallory MSD Ignitions and they do Quit for an obvious reasons like bad grounds or burnt triggers - then again some unknown intermittent reason. I changed out the OEM Ignition Resistor Coil Wire for solid wire and bolted a Ballast resistor Dodge will do or a Mallory 700 ohm and bolted it to the fire wall in case I have to disconnected the MSD Box and stick in an OEM Points Distributer which I keep in the trunk.

Thanks for the responses, I was told that all MSD distributors HAD to have a box to work. Do you know what the model was on the ready to run Dist.?

The most popular MSD ready to run is the 8360. It's a small cap unit with HEI type terminals and 3 wire hookup (power to + coil, ground, and trigger to - coil) A blaster 2 or similar coil and removal of the oem resister wire is recommended. Can be modified to work with an msd box but does not require one. I love mine, works great.

MSD also makes a Digital E-Curve distributor that works with or without the box. I'm running mine w/o, and it works well.

I am using a MSD 6A and the MSD E-Curve and really like it. Got the 6A on Ebay and the E-Curve new, very happy with it all, slick stuff. Click on my username and go to my posts, I have one large post with info you might be interested in on the digital age and the E-Curve. Randy
