Any trick to putting these on without breaking them? I've managed to break two of the 396 emblems when mounting it on the curve of the fender. The driver's side went on fine with a slight bend. The passenger side, not so well.

I ordered a fourth emblem and I'm nervous to tighten the thing down for fear of breaking it again.

Tricks? Were the originals curved?

It has been a long time since I mounted my 396 (1968) emblem's.
I imagine you have already considered that it is always a good idea to pre thread the retention nut on the stud to run in the thread prior to mounting it on the fender. This should help reduce the other strains to the emblem when installing. The 1968's are mighty thin and fragile compared to the 69 versions. I do not remember what I actually did back in 1987 when I painted my car.

Another idea is to install emblem and draw it in by tightening the 2 (or 3) studs a little at a time, alternating like a wheel torque vs one end then the other.

The middle stud is shorter. Is it supposed to get a speed nut too? I only put one at both sides the driver's side.

I believe the middle stud is just an alignment pin.
