View Full Version : How To Trim Trunk Mat ?
markr Apr 8th, 07, 09:32 AM Can someone tell me how the original trunk mats fit around the filler neck and latch ?
Is it supposed to be cut around the whole assembly like this picture I found ??
Mine has a section up the middle, under the lock that's missing in your picture.
markr Apr 8th, 07, 10:32 AM That's what I thought Dennis.
Is it the slot I see cut in this claimed original trunk mat ?
And should that slot be wrapped behind the latch mechanism ?
(Do you have a picture of yours ?)
Kurt S Apr 8th, 07, 02:34 PM And you know that trunk mats only came with deluxe interior cars, right? :)
Mark you lost me with that second picture since it is of a convertible around the cocktail shaker and not the rear latch...
Here's more on around the shakers if it helps any. I didn't cut any around the latch, I think it was stamped out the way it is. I'll try to get a pic of it... Are you looking for factory correct or just a clean look?

Hi Dennis,
Sorry I thought the slot cut in the mat was for the latch.
I am looking for a factory look. I'll wait to see what yours looks like.
Thanks
Mark
Mark I took a look at mine and snapped a shot. It's not pre-cut and is actually real rough (was in the car this way when I got it), I'll show you in the 2nd pick what I was remembering as factory pre-cut...
Not a very clean cut...

Nice factory clean cut and what I did around the shaker feet...

The orange tint you see on some areas is actually fine tree pollen dust.

It looks like you cocktail shaker is avtually bolted on top of the trunk mat. Is that just the picure or is this the way it should be?
markr Apr 9th, 07, 07:47 AM Thanks very much for the help everyone !
So it looks like I should cut two rectangular channels into the back edge, but leave a center flap.
Like this ?

No it's cut out under the feet... Look closer at the rounded edge of each foot and you'll see it's cut out. I don't know if this is correct but I was told the feet area is cut out because the shakers were installed before the mat went in. Follow that link I posted earlier and I describe how I made the cuts so I could install the mat with the canisters already installed.

Mark that would match how mine was done but doesn't match x22's. He didn't say if he knew if that his was correct or not. Since you have the material you could cut that center flap to be a T so just the supports are cut out when the mat is in place...
markr Apr 9th, 07, 09:53 AM Yeah, I'm wondering if X22's is factory.
It looks too good to be factory, know what I mean ?
It looks like a machine cut edge, and the corners are rounded.
I didn't think the originals were that detailed ?
X22, Is your mat an original ?
mark x22 Apr 9th, 07, 05:38 PM its an old reproduction but i believe it matched my original .
markr Apr 15th, 07, 10:37 AM Well here's how mine turned out.
Thanks for the help everybody.

DjD Apr 15th, 07, 11:26 AM Looks good Mark, very clean...
Mark Rossiter Jun 25th, 07, 09:55 AM For a 67 coupe, how did GM deal with the spare tire hold-down? Did they just cut out a slot or a chunk in the trunk mat for the hold-down to poke through?
