: Touch up weld new frame rails?

I bought 2 new partial frame rails and noticed that the cylinder where the rear spring shackle attaches is only patially welded. The original ones are welded the full circumference. Do you guys think these are adequate or should I complete the welds? I would think this area gets a lot of force applied yet maybe the weld is purely to reduce rotation. Thanks for your help. :)

One other question. Due to the propensity for this part to get rusted what should I do on the inside ,besides weld-though primer, to help reduce this ?

I think the partial welds will hold just fine. The rotational forces here should be very minimal. The frame rail is where the spring load is transferred to, the eye just provides an attachment point.

Weld through primer sounds like a good idea to me.

The inside of mine were pitted pretty good. Had to clean them up a bit (PITA) to get the new poly bushings in. Treating them like you mentioned is a real good idea. But then again mine is a 40 year old car from the east coast.

I have to do the same thing to my Firebird. I am treating the inside of mine with a good primer, then use Eastwood rust encapsulator, lastly I will put a cold, galvanizing compound on top of that. The galvanizing compound is the closest thing I have found that replicates the dipped galvanized that was on the inside of the rails and the rockers.
