I have a BIG PROBLEM!!! My driver door is stuck in the lock position and yes the door is closed.. I do have the panel off and can get to the latch, but the levers on the latch will NOT move to the unlock position.. It seems like something broke inside the latch.. Can anyone tell me maybe what I can do.. PLEASE HELP!!! Thanks Ed

well you prolly have this lil sprong that is either broken or fell off the lock mechanism....

first you have to spend some time and jiggle, wiggle to get it open... then take the panel off to investigate........

be patient!!!! its a 69 camaro!!!!!

it is the little spring like wagonman said. You'll probably find it in the bottom of the door shell once you get it open.

The spring pushes the lever that the door handle depresses outward. If the that lever is not all the way out, the lock mechanism won't operate. if you can reach in there and push that lever out towards the door button, the lock mechanism should work.

Many have overcome this by VIOLENTLY slamming the door lock knob up and down. Seems the vibrations will often put everything (briefly) in the right place and it will unlock.

Door panels is off, it is not in the handle, it is the latch.. The lever that moves to lock and unlock the door is stuck inside the latch.. It is like a cam inside the latch and it wont move. I need to know if anyone has ever had to cut a latch apart from the inside because as far as I can see there is no other way.. I took a pry bar and tried to push the lock latch and it wont move..

the LEVER THAT IS PUSHED BY THE DOOR BUTTON needs to be out all the way. Note that it is not actually connected to the exterior button, just kinda floats there.

That mechanism is what makes it so you have to hold the button in so the door stays locked when you close it.

With the spring broken, the car thinks you are holding the door button in to close and lock the door, and it will not let the lock lever unlock.

Reach your hand in there, and push the lever that opens the door outward until it touches the backside of the exterior button.

Hold it there and unlock the door.

It will unlock.

Get your hand inside the door and push the latch that the outside door button pushes on and push it fully in and/or out and try opening the door. If that is not it try this.

Have your hand on the lock (part you push down and pull up) and pull it up and down man, many times but not so fast that you can't tell it is unlocked. When/if it comes up you can open the door.

if that's not it or does not work you will have to push on the latch mecanism that is over the striker. It's a PITA but it will open if you can get it right.

If the door opens remove the latch mech from the door and clean it very well and lube it. if the first one works you have a door handle/latch problem where it hits. If the second one works you have a broken spring in your latch mechanizm. If the third one works check all of the above and clean and lube. I use brake cleaner and white spayable grease.
