Okay guys, need a little help. Could the "PTB" stamps on the firewall be spread across the entire length of the cowl as shown in pics? The ones I've seen on other cars have been bunched together.

The first pic clearly shows the "T" right below the cutout for the AC vacuum canister on top of the cowl. That one is easy.

The second pic shows a letter "?" below and to the right of the cowl tag. I'm sure this is either a "P" or "B". Maybe "B"?

These two pics were taken when I got home with it and before washing. Not knowing the importance then, I didn't note the type and location of each stamp prior to pressure washing.

The third pic, after washing, shows a letter "?", I think a backwards "P", above the hole for the heater motor. If so, would it be logical to assume the one by the cowl tag is a "B"?

I know this is trivial, but this car has been put back to as close to original as possible. Any thoughts or comments? Thanks!!!

Tim

I would say yes, they were making 500 to 600 in a day so after a couple hundred i'm sure they didn't care. take some good pics before you strip it down also get a distance tap on each remember when it stripped and painted you'll need them to put it back in the correct place

I know this is a Z but there are some pics on the bottom of the firewall PTB stamps.

There was no rhyme or reason to the placement.
They were applied every which way - in every order, in most any place.
right side up, wrong side down, half the letter, or sometimes not at all.

Re-apply them so it looks like someone actually cared.
We tend to restore these cars with more care then they were originally produced.

You are not going to leave paint runs, and glue drips - so make the stamps look nice too.
Just my opinion.

realistically - If you want it 100% completly original, you could blow your nose, and throw the tissue under the carpet.

I understand about the 500 to 600 cars a day. That would get old quick. This was just the first car I've seen with them that far apart. Thought it to be interesting to show some pics of an unmolested firewall before resto. Those pics were taken in 2002 when I brought it home. This was basically an awesome "barn" find. Fours years later and alot of $$$$$$$$$$ and time this is what she looks like now.
