View Full Version : BFG's in short supply
click Apr 13th, 07, 01:25 PM Just a heads up to folks. Nobody in my area could get BFG's T/A in the 235/60/R15 size for nearly 60 days, everyone was on backorder from the factory. I got lucky and called around and found a set in Mpls at Discount Tire and they put a hold on them for me. 2 other dealers tried to scalp them away but the guy held them and I got them on Wed. If you are thinking about new rubber, call around, seems to be a shortage.

SixtyAte Apr 13th, 07, 02:05 PM Jim... nice find and choice too! I have been running them since 2001 and love them. I think its the demand for that brand rather than anything else. I think they will get caught up about October...time for season end :)

sdtsdt Apr 13th, 07, 02:37 PM I was shopping for T/A today also ... I began thinking Dunlop or Yokohama after searches were drawing blanks. Maybe I'll see some in Charlotte this weekend ...
67-427 Apr 13th, 07, 06:47 PM I was able to get the 235's for the front of my car but, I ordered the 255/60 's:( from summit and they have Back ordered them until mid summer!:(
click Apr 29th, 07, 08:25 AM I finally got around to getting my new tires mounted on my new rally wheels :D I need to clean them up now but the car sits much more level as I had 15" on back and 14" on front. Now I have 'carma' with 235/60/R15's all the way around. Should be nice ride now with the new 700R tranny on the highway. I need to clean up my trim rings now too.

kgmunro Apr 29th, 07, 08:31 AM I work for chrysler and BFg's are one of our major tire brands. The company rep. says they are discontinuing radial TA's and being replaced by uniroyals.I can't believe it but it is true. The radial ta's have been around for so long,I can't under stand why they would give up a good thing.

I heard similar. I heard the TA line may move to Coker.
Great, Tiger Paws. Ug. Why rejuvinate the uniroyal name - that is dead to consumers.
I'm probably buying Firestone Indy 500s for my 77 this week.
kgmunro Apr 29th, 07, 08:33 PM where is a good place to buy hoosier radials for my 69 for street use...love the look of them.
Fred Mertz Apr 30th, 07, 09:44 AM I got the last 2 235/60R15 at Tognotti's in Sacramento last October. I don't think they carry BFG anymore. My usual source couldn't find them anywhere.
I should have gotten an extra for a spare.
So the 255's are getting rare too?
Lucky68 Apr 30th, 07, 11:07 AM I was finally able to buy a pair of 255/60-15's last summer. I had to wait almost 6 months because of their availablity. I hate to hear that they're going away. I might try to find another set before its too late to buy them anymore.
Dwight's Z/28 Apr 30th, 07, 12:20 PM Ok, I don't know who to believe....
I just got off the phone with BF Goodrich at their main number and they did confirm to me that Radial T/A's were on back order, but not to worry that they had no intentions of getting rid of that line. She stated that they were back-ordered because they are in the process of a "redesign" to improve the tire. Now what that means???? Who knows......
jet_car2000 Apr 30th, 07, 06:13 PM Sounds like BFG is just going to improve it some,,its been a long time since it was 1st designed and tires are way more advanced today ,, so i would think the new design will be a much better tire,,,Frank
blue ss May 1st, 07, 06:43 AM Thats a shame, nothing wrong with it. Mabe like Coke found out should have left it alone.

I like to walk around car shows and see if I can find at least 3 generations - I almost always do if there are a lot of cars. And I like to see who is running 20+ year old tires on their cars. Maybe this summer I will try to document the BFG T/A evolution. :)
I hope the info from BFG is correct - I sure trust it more then the local guys I got info from. But the 'backorder' deal has been going on a while - which fuels their speculation, me thinks. Sizes have been dropping off the 'actually available' list for a while.
blue ss May 7th, 07, 06:01 AM Brian,
Thank you for your email. We appreciate the opportunity to serve you.
We greatly appreciate your interest and patronage. We do not have any plans

great demand. Please feel free to contact us at a later date for your tire

We have forwarded your request to the Marketing Department.

68RSconvTN May 7th, 07, 01:13 PM They were on backorder last October also. I went with Firestone Indy 500 - better warranty.

That maybe they're going to improve the tire? Is there any reason to assume otherwise?
Dwight's Z/28 May 9th, 07, 04:07 PM Polymer technologies are constantly advancing so lets hope for the better.... who knows.... maybe they'll start a really cool tread pattern in the 14" 15" wheel range..... I won't hold my breath though.... *Shrug*
SavageCanuck May 12th, 07, 09:43 PM The first place I tried was Fountain Tire looking for 255/60 R15 and after a month or more of dicking me around I decided to look some more.I got lucky when Kal Tire in British Columbia said they had a pair at the coast. They shipped them up and installed them for me and the big fresh meats look great on the Vert.Yes they are hard to find but you must phone around to see if someone has any in stock
BonzoHansen May 13th, 07, 09:26 AM Tire rack now lists:
BFG Radial TA
245/60/15 with Estimated Availability: 06/08/07
235/60/15 with Estimated Availability: 05/18/07
Brentmc May 14th, 07, 05:10 AM How do the Firehawks handle compared to the T/A's?
BonzoHansen May 15th, 07, 09:38 PM How do the Firehawks handle compared to the T/A's?
None of the 'cosmetic performance tires' (yes, that is the term BFG/MAST used to use) handle well. I think any of the name brand tires are quality hoops.
I have heard very good things about the Indy 500s. If they came in 245/60/15, I'd have bought them. I bought the Dunlop GT Qualifiers today. Of the name tires, the current radial TA is the oldest of the group, designed in the 90s.
wagonman May 15th, 07, 10:12 PM you can always try the 70's series..
they still have that classic look.
Roadman May 17th, 07, 10:27 AM If anyone cares, there were two 255/60/R15 TA's at Discount Tire in Traverse City, MI. two weeks ago. They had four altogether and I bought two for the rear of my 68'. Their number is 231-932-1924.
Dwight's Z/28 May 17th, 07, 12:45 PM FYI to all....
Summit Racing in McDonough, GA "had" "48" 235-60-15's.... their other store didn't have any. They now have 44 of them, since I now have the other 4.
:hurray:
Gary L May 17th, 07, 02:01 PM I had the same problem a couple of years ago w/ my 215/65R15s. They build these tires in batches and just need to get around to the particular size. Try Costco or Sam's club.
ec68 May 21st, 07, 03:11 PM I was talking to a local tire store owner this weekend that has sold BFG's for decades. He has heard the backlog was because the molds were being set up in a BFG factory in Mexico.
So it looks like my made in America, bought in Canada, rebuilt with Taiwan parts 68 Camaro will soon be rolling down the highway on Mexican Tires!
68Jon May 21st, 07, 04:56 PM We just bought a set of Indy 500's and GT qualifiers for stock. Previous customers have run them and love them. I give them both a thumbs up!
ec68 Jul 11th, 07, 09:16 PM Tried to find 215-65-15's for the front of my Camaro, and everyone has a ship date of next month or later - so I checked at a small shop in town here that sells BFG's and they had them in stock. From the date code on the tire they are a couple of years old. They put them on my new Cragar rims I bought from Summit- no charge for mounting or balancing. The tires were made in Canada.
I also ordered a set of 255-60-15's, and they are made in USA still. ( the date of manufacture on these is June 2007)
If anyone is looking for BFG's and can't wait until they are in stock at TireRack / Summit, etc, PM me and I will be happy to give you this dealers phone number.
