This original rear view mirror with map light had been swapped out when we bought our car. The silvering was worn. I'd like to restore and reinstall it. I've seen one other picture of a similar mirror that had a connector on the end, which we don't have.

Has anyone else seen this in their camaro? Apparently, there were available in 1968 1969 1970 1971 1972 GM A-bodies. I'm wondering where the connector plugs in.

Jane Ive not seen a mirror/map light ever in a first Gen. camaro. Others will comment Im sure but I dont think it was an option either. ;)

They weren't available on first gens. You probably have a Chevelle mirror.

i have a complete lighted mirror and harness in my stash of parts. i believe the plug you are talking about plugs into the fuse panel.

someone mentioned to me that convertibles had lighted mirrors because they don't have a dome light. but i also believe that it belongs in a chevelle or larger car because it's a rather large mirror compared to what originally came in my 69. i don't believe they are original to first gen. camaros.

You are all right in that it is not listed as an option. However, it was the mirror in place when the prior owners replaced it with the POS that is there now. They bought the car from the grandson of the original owner.

Is the plug that plugs into the fuse panel a standard item? Was it used on most Chevys?

I believe its a 10" mirror...

it looks like any other accesory plug for the fuse box. you might try looking at some chevelle repro catalogs for the harness.

Excellent. Thank you Charles, for your input. I'll add that plug/harness to my every growing list of things to buy.

My buddy has a chevelle with the map light on the mirror. The wiring ends about a foot & 1/2 short of the fusebox. There is actually a connector wire that connects from the fusebox to the connector for the mirror. Not sure why they didn't just run it all the way to the fusebox.

Robert, thanks for the info. I've quickly searched some of the chevelle sites for a wiring harness. I've seen some similar to what you are describing. They didn't seem applicable until your post. I'll have to investigate more closely.

Thanks again, Jane

No problem. You should be able to find one on ebay pretty easy. There are a couple of people out there will build you one to specs. They should only be a few $$. Good luck.
