What is the tin can on the driver's side firewall under the fender? It has a couple of small fittings in the center of it that have not been used for ages...

I have a factory A/C car with power brakes and steering, auto trans if this helps?!

I think it may be the charcoal canister. I think it was used to filter and burn the vapors from the gas in the gas tank. Anyone else??

If it's mounted on the firewall under the drivers fender then you've found the vacuum reserve canister used on A/C cars. There is one large fitting that connects to the intake manifold vacuum, and one small fitting that connects to the small vacuum line going through the firewall on it's way to the heater controls.

I think it may be a "storage tank" for vacumn so there is a constant vacumn source for the vacumn operated controls.
