I am bring back to life a 69, I have rebuilt the front susp. and added 2" lowering springs. I would like to change the existing manual steering box with a power one. I see there is different options as far as gear ratios. Does anyone know which one seem to work the best and where I can find one reasonable. It is going to be a driver. (not a track car) Dont know what engine I will go with yet LT1 or a 383. any help is appriciated.:beers:

Our "steering of choice" for a couple years now has been the "thirdgen box" Hundreds of us have done it, and it works great. You get a rebuilt steering box from a late 80's camaro with "special suspension" (irocZ or WS6 transam) and a couple lil peices to adapt it.

It will give you 2 1/2 turns lock to lock, with a high effort late model feel.

Brian Lewis took the time to write up the details http://69camaro.nextmill.net/steering.html and a search for "thirdgen steering" will give many dozens of hits.

Does it bolt up in the same location using the same holes? On a scale of one to ten how hard is this retrofit?

yes. It's a peice of cake. read Brian's page, do a search.

If replacing the existing steering box with a new identical one is a 4, this is a 5.
