What Color do I paint the hood latch that bolts to my hood & what color do I paint the hood hinges & hood hinge Spring's? My Car is going to be Painted Marina Blue, I'm painting the under hood Marina Blue if that matters. I have all of these parts freshly sand blasted & waiting to find out before I have them painted.

Well, to be correct, the underside of the hood should be painted 80% black, if I remember correctly. Also, to be correct, the hinges, and latch should be phosphated. Some try to simulate phosphating by using cast blast grey, and add just a spritz of 60% gloss black (like rustolium 7777). By spritz, I mean hold the spray can 3 feet away and do a quick spritz. You just want to let a little black find its way to the hinge.

However, if you are not worried about "correct" and just want something you like, I would either use cast grey or black. Most of the street machines are done this way.

When your car was new, these parts were plated with a "phosphate" coating. So, the parts were basically a black color.

Eastwood sells a kit to restore the OEM finish. I've never used it so I don't know if it works at all!!

For correct phosphate coating - I used http://www.brakeboosters.com

They did a great job. Not cheap, but if you want factory correct - these are the guys. As a side note, they did an INCREBIBLE job on my orig. power brake booster.

The gray phosphate stuff you can do yourself, exactly as original, using chemicals from Palmetto Enterprises.

See this earlier thread:

Or black phosphate. Palmetto carries those chemicals also. If you decide to phosphate, do yourself a favor and follow the instructions to the letter. The results are very, very much worth it.
