I am running a 383 with a BeCool aluminum radiator and dual electric fans with a 180 degree thermostat. When sitting and idling in hot weather, (Route 66 in Summer) it starts to run hot. I am currently running a stock Chevrolet water pump with a serpentine belt system. I was considering upgrading my water pump to a Edelebrock Victor Series to flow more water through the radiator.
Does anyone have any experience with this water pump, or another they can recommend to move more water to try and keep it cooler? Any other suggestions are appreciated.
Thanks,
Jeff

if you put a smaller pulley on water pump it will turn faster thus turning more water.maybe some other problem like fans not turning fast enough.you need to touch top hose when hot and touch bottom hose to see if big difference. than fans are fine.also try a 160 thermostat.also if radiator cap is no good it will run hot also. because of not building up pressure. no pressure it will run hotter also.look at what radiator says of pressure you should have a cap for.:beers:

I use a Wiand alluminum pump, it was in stock and the ede wasn't. was cheaper too. Cools great.
I would stay with a 180 stat. If it's running above the stat temp, a lower temp stat won't change a thing.
Also would wonder about the pulley ratio on your serpentine system?
Do you have a Richardson / Mr. Gasket high flow thermostat in it?

First of all, does your serpentine system require a reverse rotation water pump ? If so, it may be running backwards. I swear by Stewart water pumps. Check them out.
