I bought a reproduction SS gas cap to replace the tired standard gas cap on my 67. The SS cap has a wire loom with a screw on the end which I assume attaches somewhere and holds up the cap when removed. Where do I insert this screw? As I don't see a spot, I may have to drill a hole, but where?

There are four screws that hold the gas filler neck to the rear tail light panel. Take one of them out and put the screw there and put a nut on the back. I cross-threaded the nut on mine so that no one could take it off with the trunk closed.

I got a repro, and the cable is wimpy compared to the original. When opened it would droop down and rub against the paint. I ended up gutting it off. Be careful.

Does your cap fit well? I too bought a reproduction cap and it goes on ok, but doesn't feel like it gets real snug like the old one did.

I put a repro SS cap on mine, and it fits OK. I have an original SS cap that a friend gave me that I'm going to replace it with. The lanyard is much beefier on it. My car is not an SS, and what I really wanted was a Bowtie locking cap. I bought a repro one, and was very disappointed with it, and sent it back. It wouldn't stay on at all.

Mine fits snug, but I got a new filler neck.

If the cap is loose replace the neck - they wear down quite a lot over the years.
My cap was almost falling off when I bought the car and with a neck replacement the original cap is tight as.

As I'm making my 67 an SS clone I installed a reproduction SS cap on mine and it fits well. As suggested, attach the wire loom in one of the 4 bolts holding in the filler next. I believe I used the upper left one and had to drill it out slightly.
Key is to line up the cap such that it is straight when closed. My wire loom was pretty beefy, probably 1/8" in diameter.
Cap rotates about 120 - 145 degrees between off and on.
