Has anyone ever replaced the dash top of a '68 ? I've got quite a bit of rust near the windshield, especially at the corners. It seems like all of the cutting and welding would be hidden by the windshield, dash pad, and the pillar posts. The main concern I have is removing the VIN number. What attaches it to the dash ? I don't see any rivets. Also, I'm worried that swapping it over to the new piece may cause some suspicion later. Anybody done this ? Thanks, Ron.

I have almost done that. My 69 has the same problem. I cut out the old dash top, removed or treated any remaining rust, and fit the replacement panel. It fits quite well. Just need to weld it in. As far as the VIN tag, it is just riveted to the dash. Drill out the rivets and rivet it onto the new panel. If anyone questions the replacement, the VIN number is also stamped in the firewall above the heater box on the engine side, and also on top of the firewall under the cowl on the pass. side. No problem.
