hello,

im really into reducing the weight of my 68, i was wondering if any of you guys have used this all in one fiberglass front clip, it has the fenders, hood, upper and lower valances. i've seen it in one picture where it can tilt off, seemed like it was bad ass but i dont want to be stuck with a ****ty cracking piece that doesnt last long enough.

thanks in advance

I am also into dropping pounds faster than Jenny Craig, but have been advised against putting one of these pieces on a street car due to the durability and cracking issues.

I talked to the guys over at VFN fiberglass ( www.vfnfiberglass.com (http://www.vfnfiberglass.com) ) and they recommended simply replacing the old sheetmetal with individual fiberglass pieces. They have all the parts necessary, but of course buying individual pieces does cost more. However, the likelihood of cracking is greatly reduced because the pieces can flex a little independently of one another. I haven't gotten around to putting any 'glass on my car yet though...

Good luck.

thanks john,

i used to have a 4" cowl hood from harwood on my old camaro, it was really nice, held up well for the 9 monthes that i had it.

I purchased, and just received all the individual fiberglass front pieces from Unlimited performance Products. I know I am going to have MANY hours in fitment and body work to make it look as good as the steel stuff, but when done I hope to be much lighter than the steel pieces and look "right". It will be worth it in my opinion.

smits, are you suggesting the items you got from UPP don't line up with the doors, maybe due to thicker skin or body lines formed in the wrong place? I imagine the front sheet metal(?), hood, valances, headlamp holes would line up to themselves, but, getting the rear of the fenders to align with the doors and rockers might be labor intensive?

Everett,
Well......I am basing my previous statemnet on past experience. I did the same thing with my 65 Chevelle. I replaced the entire front steel clip with individual fiberglass pieces from UPP. For the record: I LIKE UPP'S STUFF! smile.gif
Having said that, I had some fitment problems with the Chevelle fenders. The gap between the door and fender was not correct. After a little glass work of my own to UPP's fenders, they looked great.
I was very pleased with the finished product, but it took a lot of hours to make it look perfect.

I've heard that VFN's stuff will fit better than that from UPP without as much work needed to do it. Of course, the price is higher as well. I haven't purchased from either, so I can't give you a first hand account... but a lot of people on this board have complained about UPP.

I plan on getting a VFN "stinger" hood sometime in the future.

Has anybody used the inner finders from UPP. I thought about getting them for my 68 and just wanted some help. Thanks

there was a discussion about UPP inner fenders some time ago and the person whom had them stated they did not line up at all and had to do a lot of fabrication to get them to fit in. I, myself have one of their cowl hoods and haven't had any troubles with them, but there are a lot of people whom dislike UPP due to poor customer service and other things. there was a big write up about that and infact they were turned into the better business bureau.

I considered buying some stuff from Unlimited. After I ran their name through the BBB website I decided against it. I'm not out to bash them but, I will say there is some interesting reading about them at BBB. Take a look before you make your decision.

I was very pleased with UPP's front end stuff (for the price), but I ordered a trunk lid from them that was of lesser quality than the front end pieces. After MUCH work, I finally got it to look OKAY, but not perfect.
It was strange that the trunk lid was no where near fitting, but the rest of the stuff was pretty good.

It will be interesting to see how the new parts for the 68 Camaro will fit, but unfortunately I won't get to fitting them up until late this winter.
