Hello, I have an 8.5 10 bolt with casting numbers JG G070 2, the measurments match that of my 68 camaro, but I have no idea what it's out of. It is not out of a nova, because it dosent match any of those casting numbers. I would like to know what it came from before i rebuild it. Thanks!

Okay, the stamp is definitely JG. The rest of the stamp is of the format GM started using in 1971 model year. If it measures the same as a 1st gen Camaro rear, then it has to be an X-body rear.
Knowing that, I googled each of the non- Nova X-body names (Apollo, Omega, and Ventura), and found this page:
http://ronspontiacpage.com/reference-pages/rearendcodes.htm
From that page, I found a JG code as a 1973 X body 2.73 41/15 JG
So, it appears to be a 2.73 open differential, 8.5-inch 10-bolt assembled the 70th day (mid-March, I assume 1973) at the Detroit Gear and Axle plant, night shift.

Thank you Eric! You have already been a huge help! I plan to put a posi in it, w/ 3.73 gears. Should all of these parts from a 73 nova 8.5 fit this rear? Including the rebuild kit? Thanks!!

Sure will. It's a "corporate" rear, common across the divisions.
