I have my grille out of my 69 to fix my annoying squeak. I know I need to put a trans cooler in the car & it would be easier w/ the grille out. I am told bigger is better. The cut out for the radiator in the rad support is 22" wide from the bottom end. The widest cooler I saw was 21". I want to bolt it to the rad support not putting tie wraps thru my be cool radiator or butchering anything. Can anyone suggest something. I really want an aluminum color to match the radiator. Specs on my car are in the sig. Thanks. As always. Brian

I don't think you'd be able to over cool the tranny.... I'd go big, but 21" sounds like it's for an RV.
21" x ??" ??
The idea bigger is better isn't always what's best. You don't want to over cool your transmission. A lot of trans shops will plum the trans to the external cooler and then to the tank in the rad to insure what goes back to the trans isn't too cool.
The other issue is throwing a hugh trans cooler in front of your rad core may cause air flow restriction through teh rad core and cause over heating.
If your trans is new, talk to the builder about the trans cooler and follow his advice. He's the one that's going to be backing the trans if there is a problem.

I have mine mounted at angle, going from the bottom of the radiator, down towards and nearly touching the the front of the chassis...
Oginally had it tmp behind the grill, but this , as mentioned above, caused to engine run a little hotter.
2 brackets, 5mmx 3mm one end bolted thru the bottom radiator support, with a bend, to get the angle of the cooler right, and cooler mounted to these with special cooler mounting bolts with large sponge type pads.

I am ready to flip because I typed my entire reply and went to post the link and the reply puff dissapeared. Here I go again.
You guys are correct as usuall. Thats why this board is so great. I took Dennis's advice and called Art Carr @ Cpt transmitions where I bought it.He said bigger is better but I don't have to go 22". I just wanted to mount it to both ends of the rad support @ the bottom. He did say to get the plate type not tube & fin. I would still like to mount it to the bottom rail of the rad support. The Earl part in the link is perf but I hope I can buy A real mounting kit not that baggie tie strap deal. With the cooler low in front of the radiator it should get air sucked in from the dual 11" electric fans I am installing and some flow from the grill when moving wothout covering the entire radiator. Is this the way to go. Thanks so much. Brian.
