Here is a scan of a dealer invoice I have for a 1968 base v8.
It shows a ship date of 06 18 68 and an Engine Build date of 06 21 on the imprint from the POP.
Trying to figure out how this can be?
Any opinions ?
Thanks
Billy

Remember how many were produced per day or hour, Some one mentioned it , I forgot. If you look at the date GMAC set the dealer floor plan up 6/24/68, I would say all is in order, I mean this puppy was out the door and on the truck as intrest started from the factory to the finance company that held all the paper. You are looking at internal operations so it sorta tells me of the many work processes going on at one time, day and night. An only computers I knew of back then were the Univac punch cards. Is that the rear end date code I see, BP0606G,, Sure it is.

I'm still a little puzzeled about the dates.I have 95 of these invoices I just aquired (am going to post VINs soon and make them avail. to owners) and everyone that has the POP imprint shows the same time frame for shipping and when the note starts. But all of them have the build dates for the engine, rear end and tranny from two days to two weeks out from the ship date. This one just seems strange to me.

Well then the engine date must be in error, someone may have punched out the wrong date. Maybe it should have been 12??

Billy, can you send a copy of all the invoices to myself, Kurt and/or Daniel? We would like to have them for the CRG for future reference. What year(s) do you have?

As for the date, maybe John can answer this. I believe the invoices were originally printed on an Impact Line Printer such as an old IBM, Diablo, etc... The date would have come from the mainframe so the chances of it being just a typo are fairly slim. Not ruling this out, since the data was written by a person, and we all know people make mistakes, but it's slim. Like Elcamino indicated, it's probably a mistake on the POP.

By the way, if you have my car (124678L341778), don't keep it a secret!!

Ed, I have '67's and 68's. Mostly '68's. All Norwood cars from the same dealer.I was looking for paperwork on my '69 but he didn't have that year.
I'm working on putting a list of the VIN's together to post.
Elcamino, my first thought was for sure a typo for 12 and the dealer made the mistake. But then I realized that part was stamped by the factory, so not quite as likely. But I agree, that's probably what happened.

The "Date Shipped" at the top is the day the car physically exited the plant and was consigned to the contract shipping company (truck or rail); that event triggered printing and mailing of the wholesale invoice the next day (yup, impact line-printer at the mainframe in "data processing"). Any P-O-P items showing dates after that date have to be errors; the P-O-P was created manually on an Addressograph machine in the Scheduling Booth at the end of the line, where the window sticker was applied. The clerk running the machine got his P-O-P input from hand-scrawled numbers written on an extra copy of the broadcast sheet by the hourly inspectors at the end of the engine dress line and the chassis line; lots of opportunity for misinterpretation.

Well, I'm not the best with the computer, but when I go to your Maryland CC post, there is nothing there to click on. At least when I view it. No download box, no invoices.

Billy, if you can't convert them, send the PDF's to me. I have a program that will convert PDF's to JPG, BMP, etc... It also makes the files MUCH smaller!

My GM Canada documents state my z/28 was shipped on March 6, and the engine number is VO304. The plant was definitely fast. Best regards

Other than being NOR and mine being LOS, that first one's engine is 3 days off of mine.
