Took me 67 out of the garage after the winter and ran it for a while. I heard a ticking noise on the drivers side of the engine. When I took a screw driver and placed it on the drivers side vavle cover and to my ear, I heard it louder. So, it is diffenitely coming from the drivers valve cover. What do I need to do?? Do my valves need tightening?? or adjusting?? Are there any other diagonistics I can do to find out what is wrong??
Thanks
Barry

Just sounds like a loose rocker-arm/rocker-arms, adjust the valves and you should be good to go.

if you have hydrolic lifters sounds like one may have leaked down from sitting. run it a bit and see if it stops

I use my classics daily, with very litle problems other than servicing..
Over the yrs, the guys who have rods, just for sunny days or summer, and store for long periods, tend to have liyyle problems..
From sticky wheel cylinders, a drum grabing, a lifter go noisey or slow pumpup, battery issues, etc

To stop these is just a matter firing up, back up and down the drive a few times, use brakes, and dont store with the hand brake on (hand brake translation into American...emergency brake lol)

This conservation, by coincidence came up, at a meeting with our house builder last night who has a real nice bucket and a 56 chev

Sounds like a lifter bled down, Pull the valve cover off and see if any rockers are noticbly loose maybe have someone bump motor with starter (DISCONECT COIL WIRE FIRST) to check all rockers with valves closed. Also think about starting engine with valve cover off and checking to make sure all are pumpng oil. You could use a old set of valve covers with the center cut out or they sell the clip ons for th rockers to control the oil from going all over the place.

I chased a ticking sound for a long time once and finally found that it was just a spark plug arching. A new set of plug wires fixed the problem.
