starting pretty soon on a budget 350 build. Will be using used stuff whenever possible. Right now I have a weiand 8004. It is an aluminum intake designed to make good torque ranges from idle to 6000 rpm. I've seen alot of edlebrock performer intakes (power band from idle to 550) on e-pay lately and was wondering if this would be a basic upgrade from what i have. Does one flow better than the other? They seem to be basically the same.

Looking to get more low band torque due to the t56 so it won't lug in 6th. Probably go to 10.something:1 compression, and some cheap used heads.

Once again sorry that my information sucks but I'm just starting out in the engine division of this hobby. I've done some reading but not enough I don't think.
Thanks in advance.

Dave, the Weiand you have is a good manifold. It will do what you want. The performer works about the same so if a budget is an issue, stay with what you have.

Cool beans Codi. How is the car coming? Getting any closer?

an Edelbrock is more of a "bolt on" deal than the Weiand.
i got a Weiand for my Monte 2 years ago just to be different- and because it has the firing order cast on the front runners like a stock intake.
you need to use two bolts with smaller heads on the bolts right behind the water crossover in the front- they give you the bolts in the box if you buy it new, otherwise you either need to buy an ARP intake bolt set or find a pair of longer header bolts to use there. then, there is the small issue of the angle of the hole on the front where the heater hose goes- on the Edelbrock intake, it is at a 45 degree angle like a stocker, but the Weiand has it straight up for some reason. it's a small deal, i know, but one that made me have to figure out a different water control valve setup on my Monte so it would actually blow cool air out of the heater vents.
but it runs good- and any difference between the 2 intakes in the real world probably wouldn't be noticeable.

I'm going to say this that you can NOT beat a stock cast-ron Q-Jet below about 3500 rpm unless you use something like an old E-brock SP-2P intake, and then match everything CORRECTLY for it's use, imho.

And it has been proven that on relatively STOCK engines the old 8004 will do just a schosh better than the older style Performer!!

I say it this way b/c the old 8004 was tested against the old early style 2101 Performer. I don't know how it will do against a new design Performer??

I have the old mag that did the test of something like 12 intakes back then too......

PS., and I have an old 8004 on my 406 now.
