: T-Handle
68Camaro68 May 4th, 07, 02:14 PM I remember back in the early 70's you could buy T-Handles that were covered in a felt type coating. I believe Hurst made them. I had one that was black. Other colors were available. After sometime the coating would start to peel away. If you removed all the coating you would have a standard Hurst brushed finished T-Handle. Anyone else remember this? I searched but could not find anything to back this up. Could I be remembering it wrong, after all it was the 70's
Larger Dave May 4th, 07, 02:30 PM Your memory is correct. Came in black and yellow velvet that I recall. They used the same velveteen plastic particle paint that AMT used to put in model kits for Ed Roth's creations. I still have my old shifter handle with the roll control button in it (polished aluminum now).

gro51 May 4th, 07, 02:43 PM I have one exactly what you described. The black "felt" stuff is peeling off though. If I can figure out how, I'll post a pic. Some of the guys on e-bay who are into Rat Rods are paying big bucks for stuff like this. But if you are interested let me know.
68Camaro68 May 4th, 07, 03:01 PM I guess you cant buy a new one then?
gro51 May 4th, 07, 04:38 PM I doubt it, but you never know.
gro51 May 4th, 07, 04:46 PM I e-mailed you a pic of it.
Everett#2390 May 4th, 07, 05:15 PM I have one of black plastic and love it to death. Not cold in the wintertime and not hot in the summertime.
Nothing like grabbing T-handle.

no69x-44 May 4th, 07, 06:54 PM Remember them well. I always remember seeing them in various states of undress if you will. The felt always came off them.

Just out of curiosity, Where did you get it? Can you still purchase one?
pdq67 May 5th, 07, 06:41 AM Where else, but from Hurst. Or whoever stocked Hursts parts.
I had an el-cheapo, chrome T-handle on my Muncie! I wanna say, Cal Custom??
My wrist just fit perfect on it.

Everett#2390 May 5th, 07, 08:14 AM Just out of curiosity, Where did you get it? Can you still purchase one? There are no markings on it. I believe it came with a 67 RS basket case I bought a couple decades ago. This one I have is threaded for 3/8-16 rhd. I used to have an universal with a setscrew by Cal Custom, but I must have let that one go with another car I sold, or its in my 30-yr bolt box.
I remember seeing them through the 70's & 80's, Cal Custom & Mr. Gasket. Good luck in finding one.
Crown Royal comes, or came, in a nice cloth bag with draw string and fit the width perfectly. I had it shortened up to protect my hand. Ever see a man's hand with "TSRUH" seared in the palm?
Smoke'm May 5th, 07, 10:57 AM its called "flocking" guys, how many handles you want in black ???
flocking can be bought fairly easy, only thing is there is alot of diff sizes and shades of black, it had a big comeback in the last 8 yrs or so on goose decoys flocking the heads for a lifelike look, it is also killer on fixing up the inside of your console like new.
deejaygee may have some before and after pics of one he did with my stuff.
if your in Seattle I can hook you up.

68Camaro68 May 7th, 07, 04:44 PM Looked on the internet and found a company named Donjer that produces flocking kits. They have about 24 different colors. Next time the wife goes to Michaels (chain, craft store) she is going to look for it. This might be the one and only time I might venture into the place with her.
