I've had my 1969 for almost 20 years, thanks to you folks today I found out I have a 4 speed Saginaw tranny R9H13, (tranny no. match my vin no. so I know it's original) kind of tuff getting underneath it now adays. I've got front disc brakes, the valve in the brake line under the driver seat, close ratio steering, 5 leaf springs heavy duty shocks with springs on them, I've never owned any thing with such a tight suspension sytem. My engine is not original it is a 350 I believe 1974 already in the car when I bought it. My question to some of you with knowledge of the X11 cars what could of the original engine been. When I bought it 20 years ago the fellow told me it was an SS although I have the SS hood on it I know from reading the true points about the SS it's not. Disappointed at first but I love my car and it not for show but my pleasure driver in the summer and dry days. It,s never seen rain since I've owned it.

X-11 is a style trim option (rpo z21)and would include trim on wheel wells, drip rail molding the trim on the louvers or gills in the rear quarter panel. That's not the entire list but it's all trim pieces and is available on any '69

Hi Tony - that's the trim code for the interior - your car came with a black standard bucket interior when new.

Post your entire cowl tag and vin and someone will decode it for you...

Tony - your car was put together in the 5th week of Aug in Norwood Oh, it started life a V8 (from the vin) coupe, Daytona Yellow with a black top and has the style trim and std black interior as already mentioned. If it had any stripes they would have been black.

This page will help you identify any performance options the car may have had. It's all visual from here unless you have documentation... http://www.camaros.org/diffs69.shtml

So since it has a saganaw, I think it would have left the factory with either a 307, or a 350/2bbl, and a 10 bolt with monoleaf.

Dennis,

Again thanks for the info.

On the last post I find it hard to believe it would of had a 307 from the factory because it's got the 3/8 gas line, power disc brake. My car does have the 10 bolt rear but I know the heavy duty springs in back are factory, never been touched. I would think it may of had the 350 2 bbl. I had a convertible 69 with the 307 with the 10 bolt and mono leaf, this x11 is no where near that ride. My suspention system is twice what I had with the convertible.

Does anyone else out there have a X11 car with the set up like mine?

the 3/8" fuel line is standard on all engines 6Cyl and 8 cyl, EXCEPT LM1 V8 and the SS cars with Qjet carbs that all used dual lines, one being a return line.
The suspension set up wont change if its an x11 or not, again thats strictly an appearance code and wont change springs, steering, etc. :)

The multileafs indicate that it came with the L65 350 motor.
The axle code will confirm the ratio and date.

Discs were optional on L6, 307, or L65 cars.

Kurt,
Thanks for the information, I just got done reading the article on the LM1- The 69 Buget Performer. Outstanding reading material, I am sure now my car must of come through with the L65 engine. Gives me something to try and find. I've used the site before great information. After reading the article I remember that my nephew gave me a manifold for a 4 bc and the carb for it. If I install it I would be close to a LM1 engine. I will try and get the axle codes to confirm the ratio and date. Again I am not into performance, but that nice ride on good days, with my oldie but goodie. Thanks again.

Kurt,
Just got out from underneath my car found the axle code just where the site said, turns out to be PO 0819G1.
Would this and the suspension system ( 5 leaf springs ) place my car with the L65 engine, again I know my car came out in late 69 last week of August, to late for a 327.

Thanks again,
Tony

That's a 3.08 open 10 bolt.
Original and correct for the L65. :)

Kurt,
I want to thank you and all the folks for sharing the knowledge which closed this chapter concerning the original engine of my car. I guess alot of folks must have likewise thoughts, wondering how their camaros came off the line. I can't tell you how great it is to have such a valuable resource of information regarding these cars. You folks are great! Thanks again for closure.

From your first post "heavy duty shocks with springs on them"
This was not a factory item, so perhaps the previous owners did some suspension upgrades.
"I've never owned any thing with such a tight suspension sytem."
These cars, even with the full SS package and best suspension from the factory, were no where near todays vehicles, so it's almost certain some upgrades have been done.
