Tempe = college town. Mill ave on Friday or Saturday night. If you would like a good car show, Saturday go to the Scottsdale pavillions. About the only thing in Queen Creek is dodging the construction going on.

Head west on baseline until you get to Central Ave. Turn South on Central and it ends at South Mountain Park. I like to drive to the top of the park and watch the sun go down and the city lights come on. The Native Americans are usually selling jewelry and pottery up there and you can dicker on the prices and get some pretty good deals. On the way down just after the first traffic light on Central look to the left and there is a resturant there called Los Dos Molinas. I really like the food and the margarittas there. You can also go to Alice Cooperstown if you want down town. Mix of rock and roll and baseball, maybe Alice will be in and do an inpromptu performance. Just West of the highway on Baseline is South Mountain Resort and Rustler's Roost. Rustlers has pretty good food, and a pretty good view, slide down the slide when you enter the resturant and scream Yee-haw! You can also try the rattle snake as an appetizer. A little tough for me, kind of like clams.

As suggested Mill Street in Tempe is a nice walk and Monte's Casa De Vejo near the river at the end of Mill has great steaks and a lot of history. Lots of places to eat on Mill and many have second floor open air seating. Also on Mill is a great Piano bar, it's underground I can't remember the name of the place above it. See if Firebird International has any racing going on in Chandler on Wednesday night, it's just South of Tempe. The one thing I'd do for sure if you're into scenic stuff is drive to Apache Junction and drive the entire Apache Trail all the way to the Roosevelt Dam. It's an old supply trail and the last 25 or 30 miles are just dirt with cliffs and no guard rails. Make sure you have a full tank of gas starting out, there isn't anything out there once you pass Tortilla Flats. Stop into Tortilla Flats, consist of about 3 buildings, and eat or drink at the bar, you can sit on the saddles or wooden chairs. Then head out for the very scenic and secluded drive on the trail. I've driven it probably 6 times and enjoy it every time. Plan on about 4 hours from the time you leave Tempe until you return.

If you decide to drive to Tucson for a day there's a lot there to see, Pima Air Museum if you like old jet aircraft including SR-71 Blackbird, the ICBM Nuclear missle silo tour, there's also Southwestern Dragway on Houghton South of town. I've only actually seen racing there once in about 6 or 7 visits to the area, but it was nostalgia top fuel which was neat.

You can head North out of Phoenix to Sedona to see the amazing red rocks, nothing like this scenary there. If you go plan to drive up toward the airport, it's on top of a plateau, to watch the sunset. Just past Sedona is Montezumas Castle, Native American Indians from around 1300-1400 dwelling in the side of a cliff. Pretty neat to see. Montezumas well is just beyond that and is also pretty neat. Tozigut is another old Indian remain, National park that you can tour without guides, you are free to move through the remains on your own.

Also if you head to the NE out of Phoenix you can drive the Salt River Canyon, it is quite a thrilling drive, I wouldn't try it at night like I did the first time.

Lots to do. Enjoy your time there.
