What is the part on the transmission that the speedometer cables attatches to called?It is plastic and is held on with a clip that is shaped like a "Y" and has 1 bolt in the clip.How hard is it to change this part?Someone tightened the cable too much and broke it.

I presume you have an AT car? The Y you refer to the the speed adapter retainer. Didn't think you could break these things, usually bend. Flat stamped metal?

It's not the retainer that broke it's the threaded plastic part that the cable nut screws onto.

Lower speedo cable nut goes into a bullet thingy called gear adapter with an O ring seal. Inside it is the plastic driven gear that is driven by the drive gear on the trans main shaft. You had not said if this is an automatic.

it is called the speedometer gear housing. on the outside or inside of it has numbers on it you need the same 1 with same numbers on them since it is offset to except the gears.if you give them to me the:beers: numbers i can give you a gm part number.
