Can you use a mechanical clutch with a LS2 engine ?

Don't know specifically but I know that you can easily retrofit a ls1 t56 to mechanical linkage. As such I'd say its possible, you'd just need to either modify the bellhousing or find a new one. Mcleod makes a modular bellhousing that may just do the trick. You'll have to drill and tap the block (if possible). I somewhere read that they make adapters so you can use the z-bar setup without tapping the block but cant remember where.

All this only holds true is you are retrofitting it. May I ask why? I for one am a fan of mech clutch.

I just shifted from a automatic to a TKO-600 with a mechanical clutch and it works great, next, I am considering installing an LS2, but I really don't know what it will take to make this transition. I don't think drilling and tapping a block would be an option for me. Especially a brand new one. Thanks for the reply

Anything is possible... but if you do an LS2/T56 swap, switching to a hydraulic clutch is a lot easier. ATS (www.t56kit.com) sells a kit with a crossmember, mounting bracket for the clutch master cylinder, modified (adjustable) clutch master, and stock slave/throwout. S&P also sells a bracket, except they have you weld a tab to the clutch pedal instead of modifying the master.

I've seen at least one guy with a C3 'vette on ls1tech.com that is trying to use his existing almost-new Keisler 5-speed with an LSX. Don't know if he ever got it all together, he seemed to be banging his head against the wall for a while.

As was said, anything is possible.
The trans itself doesn't care. Bellhousings setup for mechanical linkage that will bolt to both an older block and a T56 are made, but I don't know how the bellhousing / block connection on an LS2 differs, or if there is a bell setup for mechanical linkage that will bolt to an LSx engine.

Sounds like I might have to rethink my plans. My 5 speed doesn't have 500 miles on it yet. I'm not the most mechanically inclined person, I can pull and replace parts, but when it comes to doing stuff outside the box thats a different story. Thanks again for all the replies

The LS block does not have a boss for the cross shaft. So it would make it hard to use. I have in my seen a couple of mods done for a Covette customer of ours. It works well in that but I am not sure about Camaro's.

We typically sell the hydrualic kit with any LS application this makes it painless and works well with the TKO's

Good luck
