We are going to look at a 63 Chevy truck for sale locally...Anyone know anything about these early 60's trucks and can tell me what to look for / stay away from?

make sure doors shut ok. some have been opened to far, and the mechanism to stop them from opening too far is archaic at best.

Look underneath at cab mounts, cab corners, bottom side of the doors , inner fenders battery box area, floor boards bed floor, kick panel areas . look for rust in these areas. If the kick panels are rusty inside of the cab. then probably the door pillars are also rusted behind them. Look for rocker panel rust ed through or rust bubbles. Just finished a pick up with these issues and spent a couple Tons of cash. Parts are readily available but cost money. Then they have to be installed body work is Chump , but more than chump change. One more item is the differential gears. Pinion gear bearing is chump there sometimes also. Good Luck.Cornbead

Good advice from cornbread...I have a 66 and most all of these trucks tend to rust in the same places, kinda like first gens. Cab corners and rocker panels are almost always eat up...as are the fender corners...and the body mounts too...Cornbread pretty much covered it.
