And if not, what modifications are needed? Rally Sport May 8th, 07, 05:30 PM I just installed one in my 69 Convertible, shifted from an automatic to a 5 speed, a lot more fun and works great, depending on your car either Automatic or Manual you might have to cut a hole in the tunnel or modify the one you have {Just a Little}. The transmission is bigger than a standard automatic or manual transmission so you might have to massage the tunnel just a little to make sure you have the clearance. There are some great how to instructions on this site, just use the search engine. Classic 5 speed can be a great help to. zdld17 May 8th, 07, 07:29 PM I went from M22 to TKO, only mod was , shorten drive shaft. Used orginal non console shifter boot and stick. I used made to order trans crossmember. Easy button. Eric Kammerer May 8th, 07, 08:42 PM Welcome to Team Camaro! Yes, it's simple. Yes, lots of us have done it. If you search TKO, you'll find lots of info here. Several of the guys from Classic Chevy 5-Speed are regulars here and are great at answering any questions the rest of us can't catch. I'll try to find a couple of threads to help. Eric Kammerer May 8th, 07, 08:44 PM Here's one by GMJim. If I remember correctly, he started with a TKO from Keisler, then got to be friends with the CC5S folks and now works for them. Great group of folks, and a quality kit. http://www.camaros.net/forums/showthread.php?t=56017&highlight=TKO600 JimM May 8th, 07, 10:10 PM Here's the TKO sticky from the top of this forum. http://www.camaros.net/forums/showthread.php?t=101632 Don't let it scare you, it's VERY thorough. Short version: The kit will have everything you need except for a 26 spline clutch disk. While Tremac recommends a roller pilot, most of us use bronze, they work fine and last a long time. Checking and adjusting the runout of the bell is important. You'll need a dial indicator and mag base, and probably some offset dowels. Must be within .005". A tko input shaft don't flop around like a muncie. Drive shaft will need to be shortened about an inch, you can got it with the kit, or have your old shaft shortened. Original 4 speed shifter hole will have to be trimmed just a schosh, about 1/4", on one side. You can put your original or and aftermarket hurst stick on the tko. blue ss May 9th, 07, 05:38 AM I used the kit from Keisler it came with shaft, spedo cable, crossmember, pilot bearing, shifter. I did not have to cut one thing. Bolted right in. I did have a floor shift car to begin with. Our sponser of the site sells kits as well. Mine was bought long before I knew of (classic five speed). zdld17 May 9th, 07, 08:32 AM Here's the TKO sticky from the top of this forum. http://www.camaros.net/forums/showthread.php?t=101632 Don't let it scare you, it's VERY thorough. You will need the large C6 yoke. Take it with you along with drive shaft length measurments and have your drive shaft person install the yoke with new joints and cut and balance. You will prolly be taking off 3/4-1 " . Get your measurments with the yoke in trans with about 1 finger of spacing between seal lip and yoke shoulder. |
