My car currently has a stock 2.73 peg-leg gear setup with a Th350 tranny, shift kit & stock converter.

The goal of the car will mainly be a street cruiser/car show car. I will be driving it on the highway so I want to keep the RPM's below 3K at highway speeds if possible. (I have to live with the TH350 for awhile, so no overdrive tranny for now...) What gear can I get that will provide a little more "umph" from a stop but not rev too much at highway speeds.

What were the 3.xx series factory gear options for an 8.2" 10 bolt axle? I know I can get 3.36, 3.55 or 3.73 gears from Richmond and 3.73's from Motive Gear. I'm sure 3.73's would be too much and 3.55's would probably be pushing it so are there any other options?

Any suggestions?

If you want to stay under 3000 rpm, I'd go with the 3.55's. With 27" tires, at 65 mph you'd be turning 2972. Then when you get an OD trans it will be much better. The 3.36's will give you 2718.

Would you be interested in a complete 8.2 wth 3.55 gears, Moser axles and a Torque Line posi? I know of one for sale. Send me an email if you are interested.

I was looking around online yesterday and found an article about building an 8.5" 10 bolt for cheap. It seems there are more gear options for the 8.5" vs. the 8.2" diff.

According to the Richmond gear calculator, With 3.08 gears I would turn 2733 RPM @ 70MPH with 26.5" tire. With 3.23 gears: 2866 RPM. With 3.36 gears: 2982 RPM.

So maybe I should just build a 8.5" 10 bolt with 3.23 gears & posi. Sound good? Would the 8.5" work with my 3 leafs below:

If it was me I'd keep the 8.2"...the 8.5 is nice for being able to handle more power and more gear choices, but really I think you can get the RPM's in the ballpark you'd like with the choices of the 8.2. Switching to an 8.5 is a lot of extra effort to manage the RPM that closely and the the 8.2 is fine strength-wise with your motor.
I'd think 3.36's or 3.55's would be nice...3.55's or even 3:73's if you are getting an OD.
I'd also do a search on here for Richmond's Powertrax...I've read where this is a pretty easy installation and way to get better traction...as long as you've got the rear open.

BGH says mono so you will be fine, imho..

Have NO idea of money here, but I will say that to me it would be easier to install one already set-up than to R&R one so's it's like it..

PM him and at least ask what money is involved??
