View Full Version : HM motor id dropit69 May 8th, 07, 09:55 PM only # i can get to right now..VI212HM..is this a 69 motor? thanks 69crazy May 8th, 07, 10:53 PM HM is a suffix for a 69 passenger car with a 350 250 HP with an auto tranny You need the casting # to confirm it.Also could be a 65 or 68 327ci. Vintage 68 May 8th, 07, 10:53 PM Could be a 1969 model year engine, but the 'HM' suffix was used for several years. Here is a link to suffix decode info - http://www.nastyz28.com/gm-chevy-codes/chevy-engine-codes-suffix-5.php The suffix would decode as: V = Flint engine assembly 12 = December (1968) 12 = Day of month HM = State of Tune for assembly - see info for possible uses. Hope this helps; John dropit69 May 9th, 07, 12:26 AM ill get casting # tomm..thanks guys.. tar6569 May 9th, 07, 04:55 PM ill get casting # tomm..thanks guys.. Could you also get the vin# on the engine pad? dropit69 May 9th, 07, 06:20 PM yeah sure..ddint have time today but will get tomm..need to do some motor work anyhow.. dropit69 May 10th, 07, 10:38 AM here's what was on front pad....18F154918 VI212HM Vintage 68 May 10th, 07, 10:55 AM here's what was on front pad....18F154918 VI212HM Here's a decode of that partial VIN number: 1 = Chevrolet Division of GM 8 = 1968 year model F = Flint, Michigan final assembly plant 154918 = sequencial vehicle number for registration - last part of the actual VIN. the V1212HM would then be: V = Flint engine assembly 12 = December assembly month 12 = 12th day of month HM = 327ci, 250 HP, 4 barrel carb, TurboHydramatic 350 automatic in a Full Size passenger car. So there you have it, it's a 1968 327 block. It could be the 4" block has now been fitted with a different crank during a rebuild. You will have to dig into it a bit to know for sure what you now have. Hope this helps; John dropit69 May 10th, 07, 12:51 PM at least i know what i got now..thanks John for all your help tar6569 May 11th, 07, 10:26 AM Would it be possible to get the casting number on the back of the block. I am wondering if it is a 3914660 or 3914678 block.
