The strip that screws to the body has a u-shape on one side and stepped flange on the other. Does the U go on top or bottom? Looks like it would hold water and dirt if on the bottom. They are sure hard to get apart new from the package, I can't imagine them after 35 years.

I don't know the answer to your question, but I just put a set on my car....they suck. I used the existing U track that was on the car since it was good shape.
I sent the first pair back when I couldn't get the U track out of the molding. The next set that came, one of them slid right out of the molding. The other needed some "coaxing", but I got it without damage to the molding.
They're a step above tinfoil. My driver's side looks good on the car. Passenger side was dimpled in two places when I installed them. JUNK.
how in the world did you fellows get them to pop over the rail?????????????/

The step area, mounts up. Just set the molding in place, push down lightly and slowly roll the bottom of the molding under. Install the two screws and walla. To remove, remove screws, press down on molding and slowly pry the bottom out using the slots provided and push up after entire bottom is loose. graemlins/waving.gif

Thanks 68. I'll give it a try tomorrow.
