View Full Version : Wideband hookups / AFR meters?

I need to see where everyone is on this...

I'll be going with an EFI system soon, and before that, I'm putting on a different carb that I got ahold of.

I wanna know what my air fuel ratio is.

I need a wideband sensor and controller, a dash guage, and the ability to hook the same device into the wideband input on a commander 950.

I been looking at Innovate's LC1 controller, looks like a good peice, 2 outputs, both programable to match whatever you hook em too, plus a computer link and datalogging.

They sell 2 guages, 1 expensive, 1 VERY expensive, and niether are a good match to my existing autometer ultralight white face guages.

any ideas?

A digital voltmeter that displays 1-5 volts (at a minimum up to 2 volts), then program the output of the LC1 to match what you want to see on the gauge.

As an example 1.0 volts = 10:1 to 2.0 volts = 20:1 or something like that. You should be able to get a digital voltmeter for a reasonable price.

Well, that's as perfect as it get's Jody, but it's $350. and it includes the sender. It does say it has an output for the PCM, but it doesn't have a lot of the other features that the LC1 has, I think. I'll have to see if I can pull up the manual and see what all it will do.

I need a matching vacaum guage too, and the only ones Autometer makes these days read boost / vacaum.

I guess I'll have to put a procharger on my shopping list?

I have the same one coming for my Chevelle, nice unit. It has the proper outputs to work with dataloggers and the Holley system, I don't really need any other bells and whistles.

I was just glad they finally started making a true wideband that matches the rest of my gauges!

that's how I go then, a/m wideband kit and a/m vacuum guage... or would it be better to get a vac boost?
Hehe, somehow I find myself very near the edge, the dark side is looming!

if you're pretty sure forced induction is in your future save the money and buy the vacuum/boost now. Otherwise a vacuum only gauge will have better resolution.

You or Jody got any lines on any cheap ones?
Gotta be self contained oiling, and what about mounting on the passenger side?
This is a 68 after all.

Holley sells a new gauge for their wideband setup. 534-197 is the wideband and controller and 534-200 is the gauge. All plug and play. More reliable IMO than Innovate.

That's a pretty cool gauge! $144 from Summit.

Hi Doug i did the wide band upgrade and i just love it , we also added that gauge and thats helps out a ton also . Well now my wife can watch movies on the laptop rather that watching my A/F readings .

New gauges came in today, they are VERY pretty.
Tho the summit catalog says the AFR gauge is "white faced" it is in fact silver just like the rest of the ultra lites.

Did some measuring today. The a/m angle mounts are a sweet fit above the heater controls, a tiny bit of filing on the top edge and they fit flush. There is room for 3 across, and it would look way better than 2...

So I guess I need another new gauge... fuel pressure or?

fuel pressure is a great gauge for EFI or any forced induction. Be prepared though, it costs about the same as some widebands!
