What's red line on a stock 68 Camaro 327/275?

Thanks - Ed

I never knew 327's had a red line - lol

I believe STD 68 GM Tachs were Decaled at 5500rpm for SBC's but not 100% sure.

327 will spin way past 5500 though...redline is a generic term used to designate the rpm at which the motor will no longer make power efficently...it at this point has a potential of coming apart trying to make power above this point...the redline is affected by valve spring rates and head geometry, cam size, crank stroke, cyl displacement, crank and rod material, bearing tolerences, and so on...in actuality, your redline will very from someone elses, depending on your motors build...as a general rule, i`ve seen 327`s good to an easy 6200, but dont take my word for it...how does your car feel at 5500??does it have more lung???is it an old tired smoker, or a tight responsive mouse???

The 327 and 350 both redline at 5500.

I hooked up the tach this weekend. I tested myself by ear first time out and found myself shifting around 5000. So not bad.

I have to say, I am so damn happy that I removed the PG from my stock 327/275 motor.

This mom and pop car now has some balls... the dual exhaust helped as well!
