came across a m-22 today at a friends house. he's had it for quite a while without using it so he might give it to me cheep. i need some help with the numbers.

Looks to me to be out of a 70 Chevelle. There should be a letter at the end of the POxxx, either an A,B, or C. Check that number again, you have too many numbers listed for the date code. Also the case number should be 661, missing the last number there.

there is no A, B, or C after the date code and there is no other numbers after the last 6 in the casting number ....just a those 6 digets. i was thinking that the "A" in the vin might be chevelle but was not sure.

You must take the side cover off and look. It seems that every large shaft Muncie is claimed to be an M-22.

it's a M-22 alright. does the "A" in the vin indicate that it is from a chevelle?

The A in the vin says it's from a chevelle built in atlanta. From the numbers you posted it's still hard to determine what you really have. Could you post a pic of the transmission numbers? Are there any grooves on the input shaft and if so how many? How many splines are on the input shaft? This info will help. Kevin
